Waste Management

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb

My friends with all due respect to Mr. Sukaelan and to all of the audiences, good morning everyone!

Let’s thank to Allah SWT because his blessings, we all can gather here on this sunny morning.

            On this occasion, I will speak about waste management. Probably closely related to environmental preservation.

As we have seen, our country is faced in the rainy season. Almost every day the rain falls heavily and almost every day we see the floods occur anywhere. Start the flood that we only see on television until the flood that may occur in our neighborhood today. Have we ever pondered for a moment, who is actually guilty of this? Maybe we never realized that we had made a mistake. Small mistakes that we do, if done continuously it will cause a very big effect. For example, littering. Those who do this usually assume that the waste they dispose arbitrarily in small amounts. Unfortunately, people who think this way are huge in numbers. If this is done continuously, garbage will pile up and scattered. So what can we do to overcome it?

            My friends,

            We can distinguish between organic and inorganic waste. Organic waste is waste that can be decomposed by bacteria. Inorganic waste is waste that’s not easily processed by decomposing organisms. Organic waste can be used as fertilizer and inorganic waste can be utilized back into a more useful stuff.

            We also can do 3R. The first R is Reduce, Reduce means using durable goods in order not to increase the garbage with perishable goods. The second R is Reuse, so it can decrease the volume of waste which will be discarded. The third R is Recycle, it means to recycle goods that have become the garbage.

            My friends,

            We are students and future generation, let’s do 3R with 3S. The first S is start from small things. If not from the small things, what else? The second S is start from ourselves. If not us, who else? The third S is starting from now. If not now, when else?

            My friends, let's preserve the environment starting from small things, from ourselves, and from now.
